Bariatric Surgery to Cure Diabetes:
Operating RoomBariatric (weight-loss) surgery will let you cure Type 2 diabetes and if you are severely overweight (obese), lose pounds at the same time, plus add years to your life!
Dr. Jacobo Zafrani, who specializes in Laparoscopic, General & Bariatric Surgery (gastric sleeve to cure Type 2 diabetes in obese patients and for weight loss; gastric bypass for non-obese patients) at Hospital Clínica Bíblica will perform these safe, surgical interventions which have proved to be successful in controlling diabetes in almost 90% of cases and provide a host of other benefits that will let you lead a healthier, happier, more enjoyable life.
The gastric sleeve (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) is a proven, radically new procedure for obese sufferers of Type 2 diabetes with a Body Mass Index — BMI — of more than 30 (to calculate your BMI, click here). In this procedure the bariatric surgeon removes 60 to 85 percent of the stomach so that it takes the shape of a vertical tube or sleeve. The tube-shaped stomach that is left is sealed closed with staples. In gastric bypass surgery, a slightly smaller stomach pouch is created, and once that is done the surgeon then attaches a Y-shaped section of the small intestine directly to the pouch.
Both these operations are performed laparoscopically, meaning that the surgeon makes small incisions as opposed to one large incision. He or she inserts a viewing tube with a small camera (laparoscope) and other tiny instruments into these small incisions to either remove part of the stomach (gastric sleeve) or attach a section of the small intestine directly to the stomach (gastric bypass).
Weight loss through bariatric surgery is a procedure used with patients who suffer from morbid obesity. This is a very attractive weight loss option for those who are extremely overweight, and it will also control Type 2 diabetes. Morbid obesity is defined as a total weight with more than 100 pounds over ideal weight, or with a BMI of 30+. Dr. Zafrani has ample experience with several surgical treatments for obesity that can satisfy your needs or preferences, the most important and simplest of which is the gastric sleeve.
Dr. Oscar Oeding, one of the leading surgeons at the Orthopedics department of Hospital Clínica Bíblica offers expert medical treatment. He has skilfully performed all types of orthopedic surgery procedures, and is always augmenting his knowledge of the most innovative orthopedic interventions. Among the orthopedic surgery procedures Dr. Oeding performs are Hip replacements (complete or partial replacement to restore movement); Shoulder arthroscopy (where the tissue surrounding or inside the shoulder joint are checked or repaired); Carpal tunnel syndrome (repairing the compression of a key nerve in the wrist that causes this condition); knee replacement (repairing the knee with an artificial joint or prosthesis); Knee cruciate ligament repair (repairing the cruciate ligament by extirpating damaged tissue with microscopic techniques); and Knee arthroscopy (examining or repairing tissue inside or surrounding the knee joint).
Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery:
Cosmetic and reconstructive surgery is becoming increasingly popular. Dr. Alberto Argüello, co-chair of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department at Hospital Clínica Bíblica, specializes in the newest surgical treatments. He is experienced in procedures that will enhance your potential beauty and wellness (cosmetic surgery) or correct malformations or problems caused by different situations (reconstructive surgery). Procedures under this umbrella include Facelifts (facial plastic surgery procedure to give your skin more elasticity and firmness); Eyebrow and forehead lifting (correcting loose skin in eyebrows, brow and upper eyelids); Rhynoplasty (improving the shape, size or angle of the nose); Breast enlargement (enhancing the size and appearance of breasts: enlargement mammoplasty); Breast reduction (reducing the size of breasts or enhance hanging breasts: reduction mammoplasty); Breast lifts (the enhancement and lifting of hanging breast through prosthesis: mastopexy); Calf and Butt implants; Hair replacement (a plastic surgery procedure that transfers hair from one side of the head to another); Hair removal (laser depilation eliminating the hair’s follicle and matrix without damaging the skin via LightSheer of diode laser systems); Liposculpture (eliminating the excess of fat and skin in the abdomen’s low and middle parts, and adjusting the muscles to the stomach’s walls); and Liposuction (weight loss surgery that removes fat deposits through small incisions to eliminate unwanted fat).
