Hospital Hotel La Católica was opened to the general public in 1953 as Clínica Católica by the joint effort of a group of dedicated doctors and nuns of the Franciscan Sisters Congregation of Immaculate Conception committed to the service of those who preferred treatment outside of Costa Rica’s highly developed public health system.
Over time Clínica Católica distinguished itself by its unique attention and total commitment to the health and life of each and every patient. As the institution expanded and new facilities were added, Clínicaa Católica changed its name to Hospital Clínica Católica de la Purísima Concepcion Association.
In 2006 an ambitious process of administrative and infrastructure changes began, in which the facilities were transformed into a new, one-of-a-kind concept for medical service in Costa Rica. Its name again changed to what it is called now: Hospital Hotel La Católica. It was accredited in 2007 as a full-service hospital (Certification of Hospital Empowerment) by Costa Rica’s Ministry of Public Health, and shortly afterward was accredited by the Joint Commission International whose mission is to improve the quality of healthcare in the international community.
Like Hospital Clínica Bíblica, Hospital Hotel La Católica offers an extensive range of bariatric and orthopedic surgery, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, cosmetic and reconstructive (plastic) surgery, urology, spinal and general surgery, and wellness programs.
Hospital Hotel La Católica is perhaps the only hospital in Central America with a colonial style hotel and complementary facilities right beside the hospital.
